Registry Healer Online Help. Windows® Registry Cleaner software. Scan the registry for invalid entries
Scan the Registry for invalid entries
Contents  Previous  Next

To scan the Windows® registry, use the Start registry scan toolbar button.
The program will show the Registry Options dialog. See a screenshot.
You may select error categories for scanning here.

Click the OK button and the program will scan the selected error categories.

·In Expert Mode, the Excluded Strings dialog will appear before scanning begins. Strings included in this list will not be scanned. This feature is useful if you wish to exclude CD-ROMs, network or removable drives (do so by adding a drive letter with colon: A:, B:, X:, etc.). Each drive path in a single line.
·In Easy Mode, the Excluded Strings dialog will not appear but the exclusion list will be applied anyway.
See also the Exclude defined strings from the registry scan topic.

Scanning can be stopped at any time by pressing the Stop button. When the scan is complete the program will automatically search for any possible corrections to invalid entries. Press the Stop button to end the search for corrections. If you wish to temporary stop scanning or searching click the Pause button.

After finishing the registry scan:
·In Expert Mode the Paths to Search for Corrections dialog will appear. Only paths from this list will be searched for corrections. By default the list contains all fixed drives on your computer (i.e. C:, D:, E: );
·In Easy Mode the Paths to Search for Corrections dialog will not be shown but the search list with last used settings will apply.
See also the Select paths to search for corrections topic.

Next step:
·In Expert Mode the Excluded Paths dialog will appear before the disk search. Paths from this list will be excluded from the search for corrections;
·In Easy Mode the Excluded Paths dialog will not be shown but the last used exclusion list will apply.
See also the Exclude paths from disk search for corrections topic.

Note: Depending on drive size and number of invalid entries, scanning time will vary. For example, if only 15 invalid entries are found on the first computer with a 60 gigabyte drive and 500 invalid entries on your second computer with a 20 gigabyte drive, searching will be faster on your first computer.
The rule is: the greater number of invalid entries - the search is longer.
So it is suggested to stop registry scan at not more than 1000 found errors max and start searching for corrections.

After two scanning processes all found registry entries will be shown in the tree-view window.
